What Willo drafts#

Every document type is included in the one price. There is no separate trust module and no per-document charge — a point worth checking against whoever you are comparing us with, because packaging documents separately is the norm in this market rather than the exception.

How the drafting actually works#

Questions in the order you ask them#

The flow follows the shape of a real appointment. You are asking about the family before you ask about the residue, and about the house before you ask about trusts, because that is how the conversation goes. The client sitting opposite can follow along, which matters more than it sounds — people sign documents they understood.

It stops you making the classic mistakes#

Validation runs as you go. It catches the executor you appointed but never named, the specific gift that disposes of an asset you already gave away, the attestation that has not been completed, the guardian appointment with no substitute. These are the errors that come back as complaints two years later, and catching them at the desk costs nothing.

Save it half-finished#

Take instructions at a kitchen table on a Tuesday, finish it at your desk on a Wednesday. Progress saves against the client record, so nothing lives in a notebook between the two.

The templates are our problem, not yours#

When legislation changes, or the Office of the Public Guardian reissues a form, we update Willo. You do not maintain a clause library, you do not diff a Word document against last year's version, and you do not find out at the wrong moment that your precedent is out of date. This is the single largest hidden cost of drafting in Word, and it is invisible until it bites.

What happens after the document#

This is where most will writing software stops and hands you back to your inbox. Willo does not, because drafting is the fast part of the job and everything after it is where the money leaks.

• The client record — family tree, assets, notes, every document and every email against the person, with a pipeline from first enquiry to signed and stored.
• Email, SMS and video — send from your own domain over IMAP and SMTP, run SMS campaigns, hold video meetings, without three more subscriptions.
• Invoicing and payments — branded quotes and invoices, expenses, GoCardless Direct Debit, and an accounts view that tells you what the month actually did.
• Print and post — finished packs printed, bound and posted under your branding.
• Ask Willo — an assistant inside the software for the "how do I" questions.

Who uses it#

Solo practitioners and small firms who want to handle more clients without hiring. Will writers expanding into LPAs and trusts, which is where most people stall. Private client solicitors running it inside a department for faster turnaround. People who have just finished training and have no client base yet.

There is no free trial, and that is deliberate — we explain why on the pricing page. The short version is that a fortnight alone with unfamiliar software and no real client in front of you tells you nothing useful. A walkthrough and then a month with everything switched on tells you everything.

How it compares to the alternatives#

Why this is not just software#

Willo is built by Project Will, the UK's support body for estate planners, who have been doing this since 2009 and support more than 500 practitioners. That matters in practice rather than in principle: the people writing the clauses draft for a living, the walkthrough is done by someone who uses the software daily rather than a salesperson reading a script, and if you want training, it is free and properly registered — Project Will is a UKRLP-registered training provider, UKPRN 10101187.
