Will writing is not a reserved legal activity, so nobody can require you to train. That is exactly why you should. The training is free, and it is properly registered.

Why this matters more here than in most professions#
Will writing is not a reserved legal activity in England and Wales. There is no regulator, no compulsory qualification and no register anyone is obliged to join. A person can decide on a Monday that they write wills and take instructions on a Tuesday.
Most people in this industry are careful and competent. The problem is that a client has no way of telling which ones, and a badly drafted will does not reveal itself until the person who could have fixed it is dead.
So the training exists for two reasons. It makes you better at the work. And it gives a client something to check.
What the training covers#
Wills — including mirror wills and testamentary trusts. Lasting Powers of Attorney, both types. Trusts — property protection, life interest and discretionary. Taking instructions properly, capacity and undue influence, execution and attestation, and the paperwork around all of it.
It is delivered stage by stage rather than as a single intensive course, which suits people fitting it around existing work.
Become an Estate Planner runs it. That is where the course itself lives, and where you enrol.
After the training#
Free accreditation. Pass a written exam and you are accredited by Project Will — free to get, free to stay, no annual renewal, no mandatory CPD hours to log, no logo licence tied to a continuing payment. Accredited practitioners appear on a public register and carry a "Safe to Do Business With" badge that a client can actually verify.
Optional coached programme. For people who want help building the business as well as learning the law — pricing, marketing, getting the first clients — there is a paid coached programme. Details are on Become an Estate Planner.
Software, if you want it. Willo is £150 a month and entirely optional. Nobody has to buy software to be trained here, and the training is not a sales funnel with a certificate at the end.
